I forgot to add- you will want to replace the center bearing if the rubber around it is cracked and old or the car has 150K. This means the driveshaft comes all the way out and gets taken to a shop, not a DIY job. Nobody wants to work on a BMW driveshaft, not even BMW shops, so you'll have to make a lot of calls. Still, it may only cost you $75 if you pull the shaft.
