Well I've been watching this board for a week and noticed posts being a little slow so thought I would post something pending the new arrival of my M5. Should hit Los Angeles on Saturday. I will post some pictures as soon as I read that last post on how to upload images. Anyway, on with the topic at hand.

Upon receipt of this new/used M5 what does the group suggest I look at orf fix first. I know this is a baited question and greatly depends on the condition of the car and its repair history, so let me give you some background to help stimulate some thought.

The car was sold in 88 to a lucky sole in Virginia 88-93 and traded hands a few time from 93-96. Then it was sold to someone in Michigan from 96-98. The guy in Michigan went through a divorce so I'm not sure how much cash he had available for proper upkeep. What's even more interesting is during the settlement rather then let the wife get the car he abandoned it at a ski resort in Colorado (the guy still owes tons of money to the Michigan courts, found this out when doing a history check, had to pay my own money to clear the lein on the car). It then sat in a salvage yard for two years until the title was cleared and at that time was sold to a friend of the salvage yard who gave it to his girl friend to drive around town.

This is history to date, I'm sure I'll find out more as time goes on. Also, one KEY point, the car was salvaged in 1993 in Virginia due to vandalism. To my knowledge the only maintenance, and I do use this term loosely, the previous owners did was put in gas and oil to make it go.

I've already received several big boxes from mail order parts companies for things like belts, hoses, filters and so on. What else does everyone else suggest I check ????

Thanks, looking forward to this weekend.

Phil.
