Look on http://www.autotrader.com. There are a bunch out there for under $5k. For a used car, I'd recommend a 5-sp manual.
If you can live with one, the E30 is a better bet as it is more modern and ergonomic than the E28 and more easily available for under $5k. The maintenance will also be cheaper with fewer front-end parts, 3-ch ABS, etc.
