On second thoughts I'm with Ian on the rattle. I mistook the what you were probably seeing (engine) as tranny rattle.
If you have engine chain noise, as Ian suggests, you do need to change out the tensioner. There is a bit of a procedure for this so be sure of what you're doing. Also, if you're parking your car in gear, don't! Just leave it in neutral and use the e-brake. Specially, don't leave it in reverse nose-down or forward nose-up.
Tensioner should be replaced piston and cylinder as one unit as they are machined to the right tolerance in sets and it is the gap between them that controls oil flow in and out from behind the piston. Also, the spring, cheap, should be changed.

Also the start up rattle would most certainly be the timing chain tensioner (is the rattle comes from the engine) This is £40 to change and bit of a struggle on the ramp. Well worth it though to prove if this part is failing. (Tend to leak oil backwards when shut down so on start up you have to build oil pressure up in the tensioner prior to actually tensioning the chain against the slippers)
Change the piston and spring as one
