Check the tank to see where it is leaking. My 1988 325 iS tank leaks around the neck of the in-tank pump. I've ordered a new seal for that location and that should fix it. I can see the paint bubbling and eaten away around the pump neck due to the leaking gas. Also, it only leaks when driven hard in corners or when full.

Thanks guys!

I'm going to replace all hoses and if need be the tank as well. I think it might have a small leak in it. Would make sense since the only time I smell the gas is when I am driving the car hard or the tank is full.

the hoses from the gas filler tube vent into a vapor collector inside the trunk ... up under shelf near right wheel well. the hoses might leak... the plastic vapor tank may leak. try those.
