I may be in the same boat, with my Jekyl and Hyde driveabilty (thread below). Swapped in an AFM from a perfect running M5, and car runs better. I suspect that maybe mine was tampered with, as I can see a good bit of silicone sealer around the cap. Flap also feels looser than the one I borrowed. I am going to swap the old one back today, but first I will try to tighten the spring a few notches to where it's tension feels similar to the borrowed one, or maybe even a bit tighter. If that doesn't do anything, may have to buy a new one also, about $360 is cheapest I've seen.

Previously had carbon deposits on the back of the car (running rich)and a hot idle (running lean?) poor power at high rpm and stumbling idle when hot.

This has all been solved by fitting a brand new air flow meter (£203 plus UK VAT).
I went through the usual things like plugs (2 bad) leads (2 bad) rotor, cap etc. but if was cleaning out the throttle air bleed valves and fitting a new air flow meter that transformed the car.

Idle now smooth as silk at 850 rpm, driveability great, more power at the top end etc.

Just need to change those worn cams now!

It just goes on and on and on but it's fun - I suppose.

Thanks to everyone who has made comments on these issues in recent weeks.

Cheers

Ian
