Drive shaft question (archive)

My car has a vibration when you first take off from a stop. It's very brief but very annoying. It does not occur at any other time. A mechanic told me, after driving my car, no inspection, that the drive shaft was going bad and would have to be replaced in the near future. I hate to second guess a mechanic, but it would seem to me that if the drive shaft were bad that the vibration would only get worse as speed increases. Could there be another explanation (center bearing, geibo)?
