1. A vibration around 25 mph which is like a shudder is usually either a worn out center bearing or a failing u-joint. Check the center bearing first. All 2-piece ds have a start-up shudder on account of the u-joint dynamics. That is why one wants a one-piece if the car is short enough. The center bearing and a well aligned ds keep it to a minimum. The RX300 has a three-piece ds.
2. If you have 150k+ miles on the car, you might want to spend the $240 (instead of the $30-60) and get a new ds while you pay for someone to go in there.
3. The u-joints can be checked by visual examination. Apply quite a bit of torque as failed joints can appear firm under hand torque.
4. The flex-disk is easy to check visually. It needs to be pretty cracked to feel bad in the car. Oil from tranny leaks will trash it.
5. Check all mounts - motor and tranny.

My car has a vibration when you first take off from a stop. It's very brief but very annoying. It does not occur at any other time. A mechanic told me, after driving my car, no inspection, that the drive shaft was going bad and would have to be replaced in the near future. I hate to second guess a mechanic, but it would seem to me that if the drive shaft were bad that the vibration would only get worse as speed increases. Could there be another explanation (center bearing, geibo)?
