My '88 M5's idle is about 2,000RPM when I start it up in the morning. Once the temp begins to move up the idle goes down to 750-800. It seems hard on the engine to idle so fast when it's stone cold and not fully oiled. Is the idle adjustable? I can't see anything that looks like an adjustment around the linkage.

Your idle open loop is set incorrectly.
I posted the procedure on this board several weeks ago. Basically you need to unplug the throttle switch and use a "Throttle Switch Bridge" or short the 3 pins in the throttle switch cable together, then set idle speed to 850 RPMs.
