OUCH! Someone hit my M! (archive)

Fortunately, there is no body damage that I can see, but, the front bumper took a pretty bad hit. To start, the bumper is nicely twisted, the left front bumper end is toast, as well as the associated marker light (I replaced that bulb yesterday), bumper end mounting hardware, and last, but not least, the air dam is hangin' low on the left.

What I'm worried about is the possibility that the obligatory 5 MPH bumper shock mounts might be bent. Also, my left front rim is bent, the tire is sliced and the allignement is out!

The strange thing is (and the most upsetting), now my tranny seems to be making a whurrrring sound. Is it possible, since the car was in 1st, that something got screwed up from the impact?

Questions:

*Does anyone know a good body shop in the Bay Area?

*Can anyone think of anything else I should look for...?

*How about a good mechanic? I'll need to have that tranny looked at. A rebuild on a Getrag 280 costs $3,000! Maybe the insurance company will total her... NO! Just my inner dialogue speaking. You all understand.

Here is the clincher - the car was parked and the person who hit me is a good friend.

Any advice would help,
Ethan (formerly undamaged e28 M5) Turner
