Here's my recent experience with a Getrag 260 in an '88 535i. Had similar problems, particularly with the 3rd to 2nd downshift. Was using Red Line MTL. Changed to Valvoline synthetic 75/90 and the condition seemed to worsen. Quieter, granted, but no joy on the clashing. Dumped that and went to Dexron III ATF. It seems to improve ever so slightly, but I think the root problem is the syncros. By the way, my gearbox is an MM Ultimate Transmission.
