I don't have a manual that specifies the fluid, but I satisfied myself that Pentosin CHF 7.1 hydraulic fluid was the correct stuff for the e28 M5 self leveling system. Joe

Hi all,

What's under the spare? My guess is this is part of the load leveling suspension. Whatever it is, though, is about out of oil. Does anyone happen to have a manual handy with the correct fluid to add? I have a Bentley on order but not in hand.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,
If you system is low on fluid and there are no leaks, your accumlators (the round ball shaped thing next to the shocks) are probably gone. These are important to the effectiveness of the SL system. When they go, the static pressure within them is gone, the internal bladder deflates, and takes up fluid. About $300.00 for the pair.
