Armando, Hope you had a good thanksgiving. yes, they pop out and you have to remove the seat backs to replace those tri colored black trim pieces on the upper seat backs. Check out the attached link to restoring the leather on the seats.

I remember my E28 535i head rest came off fairly easy by lift them up.

How do you remove them from the E28 M5? I didn't want to yank them out.

Dave are you there?, I want to(remove the sheep skins)to asses the situation on the fromt seats, and may be begin the restoration process

The site has great detail on restoring the leather seats, I think is worth it giving a try.

I would also like to fix the play on the back of the seat, any info on that?
