Shrick cam costs US $950.00 each.
I bought a 272 and 280. To anyone considering this modification, be aware that this is not the drop-in procedure it may first appear to be.
The 280 cam appears to be a new blank with the stock sized base circle. Because of the high lift, the lobes did not clear the cam carrier of my U.S. motor. Upon close inspection of a euro cam carrier, we could see that the euro carrier has reliefs cast into it to allow clearance.
O.K., so I'll just install the 272 on the intake side, right?
Not so lucky.
The 272 cam is a reground cam. Because of this, BMW does not make shims thick enough for proper valve lash. So I then had to buy valve lash caps ($100.00).
But the new lash caps were too thick so I had to have them ground down.
Installation complete, there is now a very strong increase in power above 4800 RPMs or so.
Considering all of the things I've done to this motor, replacing the intake cam has provided the biggest gain for the least amount of money and I would suggest it to anyone with a fresh engine.
