Spark plugs control engine timing to an extent. On the BMW engines (M30 and M20) my experience and information has been that higher side (of spec) gapping causes more stable idle, probably via delayed spark timing. I have not heard of any performance gains from gapping.

.024..., I was told by my trusty mechanic that .028 or even .032 is what we should set them at. Where have you had the best results ?
