basicaly looking to keep it a stock engine with ecu upgrade, and no restrictions on smog? thanks in advance.

Stock engine has 9.0:1 compression and relatively mild cams. You could get maybe 280 HP max with a chip and other external mods. Best bet is to go with pistons, cams, bored throttles, Euro headers, etc. Or just get an E34 M5 engine--315HP right out of the box!!!
