I have an '87 528ea with 200k. Heater works great around town, but sometimes on the highway it pumps cold air. The blower is fine, the switches are fine, the air just comes out cold. As soon as I slow down, the air warms up. Sometimes it blows hot air on the highway. Any ideas? I've replaced the heater control valve twice over the last 110k and I'm about ready to do it again...

I'd still suspect the heater valve. Once that bladder pops, the coolant is flowing too fast to get bypassed into the heater. Wither that or the rubber bladder was not seated properly in the valve housing.
