I read the thread a few weeks ago about VIN #s, and only recently checked my VIN to find out I have car #31, which is kinda cool. However, that VIN belongs to an 87 model, while my reg, title and other dealer/purchaser info indicates the car is an 88. It was delivered 3/87 to a dealer in Utah, then sent to Fresno a month later to another dealer.
Is there any such thing as an 87 M5 or were they all called 88?
Anyone know about this? Production of the "88" US M5,started in'87, was supposed to be only 600 or so numbered cars.
BMW got greedy at their premium price, and built more like 12/1300 cars. This resulted in a lawsuit by owners, whose resale value dropped,as BMWna had cars still left unsold in'89,and drastically dropped the car's price.
BMWna settled by returning $4000 to each owner of record listed in the class-action suit.
End of history lesson.
