I did this on my old 535i, and I used a Bosch 13xxx sensor from a 5.0L Mustang, not a Taurus. The Mustang's sensors come in 3 different wire lengths.

But I would NOT recommend it on an expensive S14 or S38 engine. Why? Because nearly all O2 sensors fit right in, but they do not all have the same characteristics. Yes, you save money now, but what if your sensor runs the engine a hair too lean? Bang. Burn a valve, melt the top of a piston, etc. My M5 will ping on Exxon 93 octane and a Jim C chip. Runs like a scalded cat on Sunoco or Texaco or any other brand.

All I'm saying is be careful!! The combination of a little old or bad gas plus anything else wrong could spell disaster. You never know if the O2 sensor you used is 100% identical.

I ponied up the dough for my M3's O2 sensor last year. Always check Bimmerworld and ALLOEMBMWPARTS.com first.

BTW--The original Bosch O2 sensor for the M5 lists for $133, sells for $89 from alloembmwparts.com. Same for the M3, but it's a different sensor. And they plug right in, no soldering or standing on your head is necessary. Plus Bosch sensor wires come as nickel-plated copper. You have to remove the nickel before you can get a good solder joint. BTDT.
