The only noise on start up I am aware of is the timing chain rattle as pressure is developed in the tensioner piston should this be worn. This however should disappear quickly. If the chain and tensioner has been changed then this would not be the cause. Only other noise could be valve clearances - have these been checked recently.? should be 0.2mm hot 0.3mm cold

Do M cars have a bit of a noise at start-up and disappears when the engine warms up????

Looking for first M5 this weekend.

The onwer says this is normal on M cars. Car has new chain and tensioner.
