Difficulty engaging to a gear may mean adjustment.
The clutch is gone when it slips really bad.
To test for slipage drive about 40mph, depress the clutch for a second while you rev the engine to five grand and then drop the clutch. If the engine continues to rev then your clutch is literally toast. If dropping the clutch causes the car to leap forward and drags the RPMs down you are OK.
