All leather shifters for the E28, E30, E24, E23, etc. are the SAME.

Not true! The E28M5 knob / boot is one peice, but two different colors of leather. The boot being "natur", which was not offered on other BMWs, afaik, and the knob being black. Additionally, the "ring" in the bottom of the boot is sized specifically for the leather wrapped E28M5 console.

I just bought a P/N matching E28M5 shift boot last week. I went through the issues of trying to get a similar boot that looked right and fit right. None did, except the "real deal".
