My e28m5 has a large amp and sub box in the trunk. It's got plenty of bass. The head-unit fizzles driving the mains long before i've had any need to turn the sub up more to get more volume from it.

No holes.

I would strongly suggest not cutting holes in the car, for reasons James cited. it should be plenty possible to get fantastic sound without modifying sheet metal. Apart from the mains needing real amplification, i am more than satisfied with the sound performance in my vehicle.

(even so, the stereo is usually off so i can listen to the motor and the tires :)

I understand your dilemma. I have the same one! I just got HUGE 5 1/4" component speakers for all 4 corners and a nice amp for Christmas. To fit 5 1/4" speakers up front requires lots of hammering, cutting, and rust-proofing!
