I would agree with you. One of the things I love about the S38 is that the power builds mostly linearly almost to redline. Cars with the same power that peak lower down don't have the same feeling.

There was a noticeable kick around 3500 without the Jim C chip, but after I installed it, the kick at 3500 was gone. Why? Because it increased the low and mid range power drastically. The engine pulls much, much better from low and mid range with the chip.

You may want to run some BG44K injector cleaner through. Also check/replace the O2 sensor, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and check for any intake vacuum leaks. If you think the power is only OK, what have you been driving? Mine is 100% stock, excuse the chip. The only thing I've ever driven that was faster was a 2700lb Datsun 240Z with a 280 turbo engine, approx 300HP.
