Have to remove the cluster. Two screws at the top under dash lip, then pop cluster out (lever from above with small screwdriver). You do not have to remove all the wires, just remove blue and yellow connectors from OBC side of back of cluster (you have to lever up the black clips first with a small screwdriver before plugs will come out). Then you can turn the cluster sideways. This will let you get at the 2 screws that hold the right trim panel (OBC, hazard switch, rear defrost switch) to dash. Unplug connectors from back of each switch and the OBC. Now you can remove the panel and get at the lightbar. Biggest cautions - 1: careful not to drop the screws that hold the OBC panel - they will disappear into the bowels of your dash. 2: plastic connectors (hazard and defroster) and flanges can be brittle. Don't over-tighten screws that hold OBC panel to dash, you can crack the flanges (I had an old E24 where this had been done by a PO).
Finally after 13 years, it went out. I've got the replacement part. I've checked archives and online info and found much about E30 OBCs. Any specific help on E28?
It seems removing the instrument cluster would allow access to OBC... which then might have to be removed to slide out the old light bar to the right?
Am I on the right track... is there an easier way?
