Neil,

You've got your numbers reversed. Remember Boyle's Law - the density of a gas increases in proportion to the increase in temperature (absolute temperature). So, hotter is less dense, and colder is more dense. Greater density yeilds more oxygen molecules, hence better combustion or rapid oxidation.
