I've had 3 e28s: '84 533i, '87 535is, and now an M5. I've maintained all of them meticulously. Granted, the M5 I have now came with many upgrades that will decrease chances of parts needing replacement, but I highly encourage you to go with an M5 if you can swing it. I'm sure everyone here will agree with me (obviously) that the additional cost is worth the supercar-like performance, more aggresive styling, and better handling. It is a car that needs a little more babying than the typical 535i, but then again, it's not typical and that's the best part of owning one.
