I agree with Mark - The 535i/is can be much lighter on your pocket and at the same time you can have lots of fun purchasing upgrades and goodies. Parts are readily available and very inexpensive VS ///M. Sure, I would opt for the M but you can get 240-260hp and lots of torque out of a SOHC M30 motor. I just passed on a super clean '87 535IS in SFD area - Lots of new upgrades but faded paint (Diamond Black) IS was a steal for $3700. Even the Recaro's were in nice shape.
