James
what do you know about this new programmable device and when does it come out? A cheaper MAF conversion? I'm very curious, wish I could do the MAF but it's too much money

If you're talking about an E28 M5, then stay with the stock airbox and filter. K&N filters are proven to allow more dirt and larger particles into the engine. Also, the OEM panel filter is HUGE and has a very large surface area due to the depth and number of pleats. It also sucks air from right behind the headlights, not from hot air coming off the radiator.

The biggest single performance gain you can make is to get rid of the AFM. Split Second has a kit for $1000, but they also have a new programmable device coming out soon for less. That flap chokes the engine off at all RPMs.
