The problem is not one of packaging of any mech engg issue. It is of the signal range and type that the ECU expects.

The AFM puts out something like a -5 to +5 signal with a logrithmic trend that represents something between mass and volume flow, correct via temp reading and ECU map.

The HFM puts out some other voltage range (maybe same voltage range), probably does not have a logrithmic curve and measures mass flow rate.

A computer that expects one does not accurately predict fuel injector duration based on the other.

Pardon my ignorance, but since the two engines are pretty dang similar, couldn't you just throw on an E34 M5 MAF? If you made similar mods to your E28 M5 engine to make it's output similar to that of the E34 (head porting, etc) shouldn't it almost drop straight in?

Wouldn't this bypass all the problems associated with a 3rd party device?
