I recently purchased the Modern Performance MAF conversion for my E28 M5 about a month ago. I have mixed feelings for my particular application as I have driveability problems. The car will hesitate off idle and at 2,800 to 3,500 rpm, depending upon load. Sometimes, it will be minor but other times it feels like a serious problem, as the car just shakes. I currently don't have the MAF installed as I'm trying to fix the small hesitations that I have with the AFM before I do more tuning with the MAF. I believe the small amount of hesitation that has always been there is being greatly amplified by the "black box" of the conversion kit. Nick has been a big help with my problem but his kit contains no instructions in regards to dialing-in the box. I purchased his kit because his black box is already calibrated to provide a similar air quantity signal to match that of the original AFM. Supposedly, the two adjustment screws are to fine tune it. From what I have read about Split Second, I thought their kit would require ongoing tuning which I didn't want to deal with but may need, especially with an M5 that has a reputation for not being very smooth in low rpm. I have gotten some initial dyno runs done, revealing about 10-12 Hp gain at the wheels. I think this will go up some after more tuning but the driveability is a big issue. So far, the best settings reveal OK driveability (cold start, cold driving, warm running and wide open throttle), still not as good as with the AFM, but I think the car runs quite rich as my gas mileage went from 15 to 11 mpg! This is after 3 tanks of gas and driving as I normally do. Overal the kit looks decent in terms of quality but for the M5 (at least in my case) it may not be the best choice. Has anyone else tried Modern Performance's kit on an M5?
