Neil's comments further down are on the money. I spoke with a senior BMW technician and he says you've got to have the BMW special tools. He claims no alterbnative. They replace with factory rebuilts. I spoke with Jim Blanton recently and he quoted me $1700 to rebuild a Getrag 260 (late model 535). It seems that core charge runs about 6-700, so maybe you could work up a "dual core" deal. BTW, he'll send you a tranny, you can swap and return the core to him after the fact.
