Matt:

While I have replaced a windshield lockstrip or at least assisted with a replacement and it has been easy, I think a full windshield, gasket and locking strip replacement should be left to the pros.

Also, the E30 M3 has a glued-in windshield so the E28 might be like that. Additional hassle.

Note that it is very easy to slip off the gasket and scratch the paint if you're using a screwdriver so take it to a good shop, aim inwards towards the glass if you must use a screwdriver/awl, or cover the surrounding area with duct-tape or something.

so i am reasonably confident that my leak is the windshield gasket.

i also have a minor chip in my windshield.

what sort of cost am i looking at to get it fixed ? what about parts ? is this a DIY job ?
