So my M5 is under the careful care of my friend, while I look for a good place to keep it at my new digs. I haven't been able to look at the car myself, but am worried about some things that have recently cropped up.
I know the car leaks oil. It does so in various areas and I ve been fixing them one at a time. Now the car is leaking coolant in a place that is hard to determine over the phone. Sounds like it is a hose that comes off the expansion tank and goes to the block. Lets hope it is just the hose.
But, I was fearing that it could be the head gasket. My car doesn't blow smoke of any sort and was excellent at its last emissions inspection. Pulls strong and all the rest, all at 98k miles.
I know it is probably time for a compression test. I tried to do this before but got snafu'd by the odd (smaller) size spark plug thread. Does anyone know where to get an adaptor for a regular compression tester? What are peoples thoughts on the hardiness of these headgaskets?
