The coolant pipe bolts to the exhaust side of the head. There are 6 ports that are sealed with o-rings between the pipe and head. The o-rings harden and crack over time. Clean the area thoroughly and have the coolant system pressure tested. If the o-rings are bad, it will weep coolant.
The head gasket is very good. They don't leak unless the head has been warped from overheating or just blown. If the head was ever removed and the mechanic did not clean the bolt holes thoroughly, the block may be cracked around the holes. This will show up as steam in the exhaust and a subsequent loss of coolant. Check your plugs. If any of the spark plugs are cleaner than the rest, then you may have coolant entering the combustion chamber from a blown head gasket, cracked block, or cracked head.
