Early cars had the gear shift knob in the same colour as the boot, later changed to a black shift knob regardless of the interior colour.

My car (1986 UK/Euro spec) came from the factory with a Pearl Beige boot AND knob. I recently replaced it with a new one from a BMW dealer, the boot is Pearl Beige, the knob is black. (BTW, Pearl Beige is slightly lighter than US tan/natur).

The part number is: BM25.11.2.230.222 though different colours had different numbers when we checked. Should give you a starting point!

Cost was GBP104.46 which is about USD147.00

IIRC only the last 3 digits changed for other interior colours.

I was under the impression that my tan(Natur) boot and black ///M shift nob were both stock, but someone mentioned that the stock shifter s/b tan as well. What's the deal?

They told me I should replace the boot and nob, handbrake boot, and some other stuff to preserve it as they are very expensive to get. Anyone know the part numbers for suitable replacements? Will regular e28 parts fit?

Thanks.

Sean
