Hi guys, I know the M535i is nowhere near an M5 but Im hoping you guys can share some of your E28 expertise.
Im about to purchase a Japanese spec 86 model M535i, Ive read that the M535i came in two types: one with cat and one without. The one without cat had 218 bhp and the one with had 185 bhp. The 218 bhp had a compression ratio of 10.0:1 and the 185 bhp had 8.0:1. I think the one im buying comes with a cat and Id like to remove it since I plan to use the car on the track only.

Basically I have three questions which Im hoping some of you guys could help me out with.

1.) will removing the cat harm the engine?

2.) will removing the cat increase power from 185 to 218 bhp or atleast somewhere near it?

3.) what would be the better way to go, gut the original
cat or just remove it and replace it with straight pipes?

Thanks alot guys
