I just resubmitted this for someone who should enjoy this: Leaving at 8 am for a 2 hour trip to Greensboro yesterday morning, I took off wondering if it would be worth the drive to get soaked and maybe see a few nice Bimmers. Not seeing any rain yet, but knowing the existing conditions were deteriorating, I sped up and averaged around 90 mph in my E30 until hitting the west side of Raleigh, where it began to rain. I saw one 5er heading east and immediately pulled up on a badged M535i. Not sure if it was for real, becuase he had a RD style wing on the back, not the ugly lip spoiler that accompanies the stock M535i. I pulled up next to him and dumped 4th as my little "e" began to make mince-meat out of him, (My 325e Gtech dynoed 145 at the rears with two people on board, meaning somewhere near 190-200 hp). The car was grey and had some nice rims, too bad he didnt want to play! First experience with a M535i and it was a mean looking one, but no fun to be had. Anyways, I get to Korman after passing the shop up and having to turn around, and the downpours begin. Walking in, I noticed an old fart and wondered if this guy was Ray Korman. My suspicions were correct. Anyways, after looking at some of the nicest BMW's anywhere, such as the M1 art car and the nicest M6 I have ever witnessed, in addition to a few racing 2002's and a super clean E30 M3, I sat down and listened to Ray Korman give a rather seriously long winded history of his racing career and how he became involved, (He can go on and on and on, but it is pretty fun listening to him). Anyways, that German Lunch was definately overrated. I got what appeared to be a scoop and a half of saurkraut and some potatoes that had some kind of special sauce flavor that I didnt care too much for, and a huge slice of a sub sandwich. Then the auctions began. I ended up with some E12 springs for a very good price, as well as a Borbet 17x8.5" rim for only $26.00!!!! More stuff I d not need, but that rim would normally sell for close to $200.00. Saw one E28 M5 at the event. Very nice and super clean. Must be some lawyers, lol. I think if it were not for the rain, many other fine examples of classics would have also showed. Missed out on some good deals, and cannot beleive I went empty handed as far as the door prizes go. The odds were with me, but then again, maybe they were not. Rainy day events make for great odds on door prizes, add that one to the notepad! Several E36's showed, and I followed a pack of like seven back as far as Raleigh. All in all, a great event with a lot of information learned about BMW racing and some of the cars they have worked on at Korman. I would like to say that a bunch of people are too sissy to have driven their car out for the event, but after buying my Alpina rims, I can see why some drivers stayed at the house for this one. Maybe next year will be better. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. My highlight was meeting a guy from Raleigh with an M1. He just purchased it recently. Supposedly, there are only 50 of them in the US. He said he will bring her out to VIR a few times this year, in April as well as for some Ferrari event. He also said that he will let me ride in it if I show up! Now how many people will ever have that opportunity?
