Steering play - Steering box bolt locations (archive)

Well everything is new with the steering system but I still have play and the car tends to wander as the road pitches from left to right. I also noticed that when I just want to make an ever so slight steering adjustment while driving the car will not move until I turn the steering wheel twice of what I normally should. Then, the car not only moves but seems to hook a little and I have to deliberately correct the wheel the other way to get her back on center. A pretty wild ride indeed.

Here's what I have so far
* 1/16th toe or .06-.08 degrees
* New tires, Dunlop 8000
* All new ball joints, bushings, tie-rod ends.
* Bilstein HD
* Stock wheels.

I did notice that the steering box moves or torques a bit when moving the steering wheel back and forth. What I'm thinking is that when driving the box is torqued either to the left or to the right, when I move the wheel to turn it causes the box to torque/move in the other direction, in addition to the steering inputs, and suddenly causes it to hook. Now, since the box is now opposite of where it was before starting the turn I have to correct the wheel in the opposite direction to get back to center. Some times this is easier said then done and end up making minor correction until she settles down.

This reminds me of riding in an old wagon as a kid where the handle attached to the front steering/wheels has play. I can recall racing down a hill and turning the handle ever so slightly which caused an immediate right hand turn into the neighbor's car.

So, (sorry for not getting to the point, I'm in sales) where are these bolts located for the steering box. I found an access hole in the sub-frame with a bolt head showing which looked like one of them, where are the others. Do I need to take the plenum off to get to them ? Also, if the sub-frame is cracked will I see it from the under side or from inside the engine compartment ?

Thanks for the info.

Philo.
