I had some paint cracking under the windsheild and at the base of the a pillar on the passenger side. Took car into body shop to have this fixed, roofline dent, windshield and all gaskets replaced.

They dig into the paint a bit, and see that the cars taken an A-pillar hit. I am not amused. so far there is bondo-like material in 5mm thick sections righ around the bottom passenger side corner of the windsheild. We've gotten down to bare metal and there is a crack which has tiny rust on it, which led to surface rust elsewhere, which caused the filler to lose adhesion, which caused the surface paint cracks.

I am very unimpressed, and pretty upset that the seller of my car misrepresented it.

So, the body shop thinks they can clean and weld the cracks, and sand/pull out / fill this properly so as not to repeat the cracking paint issue.

However, i suggested that i had rust bubbling on the cowl of my E12 and that some people cut down on this by putting in a front strut tower brace. Given that i also have some indications of very faint paint crack lines around the strut tower, and i drive my car like i stole it, im wondering if the brace might not be a really good idea to try and tighten up the car and to reduce the stress on the cowl / shock towers.

Any comments on this ?

And if so, whats the right brace to get ?

Thanks,
Matt
