After I did it this way, a friend of mine who is a much more skilled wrench than I used an Oxy-MAPP torch to heat the bushing and simple pulled it out with channel-locks (pliers) quite easily. He said that the amount of heat required and applied to the inner tube was so small that the paint on the STA was unaffected.

Reinstallation of the bushings under load is ESSENTIAL. Make damn sure the subframe tabs are not so tight that they prevent the bushing from turning when you lower the car. Bounce it around a bit to 'make assurance doubly sure' (as Lady MacBeth said).
