There are a few options:

1. Get a used compressor. The M5 one may be specific due to hose routing around the lower rad hose. Perhaps you can get special fitting for a generic compressor to make this happen.

2. By generic compressor I mean compressor kit with adaptor plate like you get for other cars to convert to R-134a. Various places have them and they should know if they have an M5 block adaptor kit. I wonder if that is the same mounting points as the 535i block?

3. Get a new BMW compressor or a rebuilt BMW compressor. http://www.griffiths.com/bmw/ has some, but I have never used them.

I converted my 89 325iC to R-134a and it is fine 3 years later with 50% charge cooling fine. http://www.neilwerke.com has details.

When I first bought my M5 about two years ago, the A/C was absolutely awesome. It would freeze you out very quickly. However, about a month ago we were having an unseasonably warm day and when I turned on the A/C, it would not put out cool air. About a week later, oil started leaking out of the compressor. I think all the oil is gone now. Does anyone have any advice on repairing the A/C system and / or converting to the new A/C gas? Thanks.
