Thanks for the compliment!

I've got pictures coming later, but here's the text version.

To remove the grille, you'll need #1 & #2 Phillips-head screwdrivers; 7, 8, and 10mm sockets, and lots of patience.

1) Under the shift quadrant or boot, there's a 10mm nut which needs to be removed in order to loosen the bottom part of the console, two 8mm nuts under the ashtray, as well as a couple of 7mm nuts under the covers at the rear of the p-brake part of the console (all these will need to be removed in order to move the lower console back). Pulling the window switches out will help also.

2) To loosen the console piece that surrounds the radio/HVAC, there are two screws on each side (one each under a cap), two on top, and two bolts on the dash (one under the under-dash cover and one accessible next to the glove box). Once this is loose on the top and sides, you can access the three screws that hold the top of the black grille; access them by pushing the radio/HVAC piece back (the radio will need to be out for this).

3) There are two screws outboard of the ashtray where the black grille piece meets the large part of the console. Once these are out and the cigarette lighter and light wires are disconnected, you can gently pull the grille towards the back of the car, pulling on the sides to remove a couple of pins that poke forward into the lower part of the console. Then you can gently spread the sides and rotate the piece out, with the ash tray end being the pivot point.

4) ABOVE ALL, DON'T FORCE ANYTHING!

First of all, you have a first class gauge installation- very nice work!

Have any of you added an oil temperature gauge?

"I have added one - it is currently a work in progress (deciding on another gauge before I put the leather cover on) -

How and where did you locate the sender? Did you have to resort to a drain-plug location?

Yep - "here's a pic of it

Can the E28 housing be tapped or would an E34 M5 housing be an alternative (albeit expensive)?

Choose not to do it this way - my installation is clean and it was easy.

BTW - how do you take the fan grill off?
