If you can't find a good 530i, there are a lot more 540i's and 535i's out there. The 535i has similar power and torque as the 530i, but they're a couple years older and a few grand cheaper. It's nearly impssible to find a 530i 5-speed, from what I've read.

The 525i is just plain anemic compared to the big-six, even with a 5-speed.
