'Floaty' speedo needle (archive)

My speedometer needle fell off while I had my instrument cluster open. I put it back in, but it does not seem right. The needle now floats up at an angle at times and collapses against the gauge at other times. It often gives bogus readings as compared to the trip computer, and not just the 3 - 5 MPH variance, we're talking 10+ MPH at times.

Is there a trick to getting this needle back in correctly?
