My speedometer, MPG meter, and odometer are both making their minds up on when to work and when not too. what the hell is that?! dont car companies desighn these meters not to break, especially the odometer? any ideas on what is causing the on and off operation of these things?

your problem is likely the batteries on the printed circuit board in your dash are about to burn out. expect the tach and other guages to go south soon as well. replace the batteries and all will work fine.
