I checked with Dinan and they don't do the upgrade anymore.
I'm no master mechanic, but I would certainly like to put a blower in my car. I get the impression many of you have the same desire.
My proposal is this:
I think it would be worth the effort to organize a team to figure out the design of a blower kit, test it on a 'prototype', then get all our cars together one week/end and create an assembly line to modify them. I realize this is a huge project, but with people like Neil and RussC on the board who have already had prior experience doing this, I think we definitely have the 'know-how' and skillz to make all of our E28's supercars if we work together.
And hopefully, we could cut the cost to signficantly less than $8000 if we modify all the cars together rather than one-at-a-time independently.
Thoughts???
As far as your questions, nothing gets done to the intake except it rebuild with new tubing to route the different placement of components. The IC is usally put on either side of the engine compartment just behind the headlights. Most don't do a AFM ot MAF conversion. It's very hard to change the entire fuel/timing map for the new sensor. Dinan modifies the AFMs with stiffer springs to compensate for the increased air flow. Then parameters are changed in the DME to compensate.

I'd like to see what has been done and how they squeezed the turbo ('s) in.
What gets done to the intake system, where do they put the intercooler, is there a VAF to MAF, AFM conversion as well?
Anybody got details?
Just curious,
