Which Pentosin variety does the E28 M5 require?-one of my shocks has sprung a leak.
Greg

This week I just had ALL my fluids drained and replenished on my 88 M6, including the SLS. I ordered Pentosin 7.1 from a supplier and they sent Bilstein hydraulic fluid instead. I wasn't comfortable with something other than Pentosin so after hitting www.pentosin.com, I found that you are not supposed to mix Pentosin with other hydraulic fluids. Marketing ploy or not, I didn't want to take any chances.

I wasn't exactly sure what was in the car, so I bled the system and refilled with 7.1 to make sure. I was also told I could have used the synthetic Pentosin 11 (?) but my climate temperatues don't come close to exceeding the 7.1 ... it also is less expensive.

Lastly, I thought my shock was leaking but, thankfully, it turned out to be a leaking hose (BMW p/n 37-22-1-120-826) attached to the right rear shock. I was relieved to find out just a $70 part instead of, well you know, big $$$.

Happy M-motoring!

Tim
