One of the plastic gears in the odometer is stripped. Easy repair for one of the VDO Speedo specialist. Have them check the other gears - I've heard, more than once, of repairing one gear only to have another strip soon after.

i have 88 bmw 528e, the speedometer works, but the odometer doesnt, any suggestions on where to start looking
