I must have done, 'cos now I AM confused!! (not difficult!)

I have since found a resolution to the problem from an E30 M3 owner who emailed accurate information as he has actually experience with the conversion.

Again thank you for your effort to assist, I'm sure that the information you provided will be valuable to someone else. Also the flash pattern information from the original post is correct, it is not a result of a wiring fault.

I had thought that you meant that Euro indicators go BRIGHT-dimBRIGHT... they don't! In the UK you often seen oldish Fords (mainly) where the rear indicators go BRIGHT-dim.. etc when the brake light is on because of an earth fault!
